How to Integrate ICT in Teaching and Learning


Integrating ICT in teaching and learning does not mean using ICT as a separate part of learning but as a part of the learning activity. The use of ICT must improve existing learning conditions and create additional learning opportunities that would not have existed without it. Moreover, it should solve the problems of both the teacher and the learners. Therefore I felt it important while planning as a teacher to determine where and how to fit the technology in order to enhance teaching and learning.

After that sir taught us the integration of ICT in education and technology of ICT continuum. There are three levels of technology integration: Basic level of Technology integration where it is using technology in upbringing change in teaching and learning.  Here the teacher uses ICT to enhance and make changes in presentation, to submit learning document by email and recording documents. Middle level of Technology integration is using it purposefully to support teaching and learning where teachers uses simulations, computer-based materials/resources, conduct learning through Question & Answer, uses software to help record keeping. High level technology integration is to promote students’ complex learning and giving authentic tasks in a collaborative environment. The teacher here creates web pages, video conference, creates e-learning platforms. We also learned about another ICT integration – SAMR model by Puenedura, R. Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition.
